The Building Maintenance Assistant performs basic and routine cleaning and repair duties related to custodial maintenance of County buildings; does related work as required.
An employee in this class is responsible for keeping designated areas of the County buildings clean as well as preventative and corrective maintenance of County buildings.
Incumbents work independently and use judgment in organizing work time to complete tasks.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Custodial Supervisor and/or Facilities Director who review work on the basis of quantity and quality Supervision is not normally a responsibility of positions in the classification.
Typical Daily Tasks ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Illustrative Only.

These duties represent the essential functions needed of persons in this classification.
) Performs basic cleaning of buildings which includes vacuuming all carpets; mopping, buffing and waxing floors and stairways; cleaning and sanitizing restrooms; dusting office furniture and counters; and washing windows, walls and doors.
Collects and disposes of trash.
Refills supplies in restrooms as needed.
Secures windows and doors in offices after cleaned.
Inventories and restocks local supply areas.
Performs carpentry work which includes installing or removing walls, doors, windows, and floors.
Builds cabinets, bookcases, shelving and furniture.
Performs light maintenance including but not limited to changing lights, picking up repair parts, replacing filters, greasing motors, light painting and moving furniture and equipment.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Some knowledge of methods, procedures and supplies used in custodial cleaning.
Basic knowledge of building construction, equipment and materials as applied to corrective and preventative building maintenance, materials used in furniture construction and repair, and safety practices and procedures.
Work independently; exercise initiative and judgment in completing tasks and responsibilities; understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Experience in custodial maintenance; or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the above described duties.
Supplemental Information BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION Those employed in this position may be subject to pre-employment drug testing/physical examination and a background investigation, including criminal background investigation.
Conviction of a crime will not necessarily disqualify an individual for this classification.
Must pass and maintain Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) security clearance.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
