Fire Management Specialist

This position serves as a state Fuels Management Specialist. The incumbent provides specialized and professional guidance and advice in the development, management, and implementation of prescribed fire, hazardous fuels reduction, and fire planning programs and policies at the state and field offices. The incumbent is also responsible for the analysis of fire effects to achieve land management resource objectives. Duties include:
serves on agency, bureau, state and local teams to develop and revise manuals, handbooks, and policy related to fire management and planning, fire effects, fuels management and fire rehabilitation; serves as a consultant and authoritative expert to the State Director and Field Managers, as requested, on the use of prescribed fire as a management tool in achieving various fire management objectives; develops and evaluates data and methods for the documentation, analysis, and prediction of prescribed fire behavior and effects; directs the development and establishment of fuels management standards and technical guides; serves as a prescribed fire qualification coordinator; conducts program reviews in the field offices in order to evaluate compliance with policies, objectives and standards; and in conjunction with Fire Management Officers, develops and negotiates cooperative fire management agreements with the state with various state, local, regional and federal fire and land management agencies. This position is subject to the Interagency Fire Program (IFPM) Standard and Guide selective placement factors for a Prescribed Fire/Fuels Specialist - High Complexity. This position requires the following qualifications - Currency Not Required:

Degree:
biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or a related discipline appropriate to the position, or a combination of education and experience. -OR- B. Combination of education and
Experience:
Courses equivalent to a major course of study in biological sciences, agriculture or natural resources management, chemistry or at least 24 semester hours in biological sciences, natural resources, wildland fire management, forestry, or agriculture equivalent to a major field of study, plus appropriate experience or additional education that is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in the biological sciences, agriculture, or natural resources. In addition to meeting the basic education requirement above, you must also meet the following Specialized Experience Requirements:
In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade (GS-11) of the position to be filled. Examples:
designing and evaluating fire management plans and fuels reduction plans; experience resolving complex fire management issues that involve use and interpretation of conflicting BLM fire and resource policies; You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. You will need to clearly state your undergraduate/graduate degree(s) and submit your college transcripts or a listing of your college courses that includes hours and grades.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
